A ruling based on a default setting has been called into question.
As of Sunday night Blair (Blairly Legal) was losing his match against Aaron (Floundering Coffee Monster). Blair's lineup had the Arizona Cardinals, who are on bye, as his defensive choice. Late Sunday he picked up the San Diego Chargers Defense from the Free Agent list who will be playing Monday November 9th. Up until this point Aaron had been winning, and maintains a 3 point lead. Blair has stated it was from negligence that he did not update his lineup.
Aaron has claimed the rule is a poor one. The fact however is that it is a default setting on NFL Fantasy Football and not a specific choice by our league. Further, in reviewing the options available the rule is largely locked in, as the only other option is far more restrictive and unsporting. As such, with input from other members of the league, and in doing my best to remain unbiased I have opted to leave the ruleset as is, with possible review to a more fine-tuned control next season if we move to a paid site.
That said, in the process of deciding this, additional factors have come up.
Primarily, this would not at all have been an issue if Blair had not actively decided to throw his week due to an initial poor showing, and then reneging when he saw he might have a chance. It's unsporting and un-fun to not do your best just because your butt hurts. A players performance in any given week can alter the entire flow of the season as was shown last year with people flip flopping on whether they would play or not on any given week. As such I'm deducting 10 points from his score this week.
Additionally instead of bringing the ruling up civilly Aaron berated me for something that had only just come to my attention and, instead of allowing a conversation to be held to sort the ruling out in a fair manner declared that the league was 'jank', that I was a bad commissioner, and claimed he would quit the league if it was not resolved to his liking. As such I'm docking him 5 points for obstructing the resolution process and a generally poor attitude. Hopefully we don't lose his presence this year as a result.
Obviously we're allowed to bitch and complain, we all know I do it often. But throwing a game due to general indifference, only to turn heel when an opportunity presents itself is not in the spirit of the game.
On the same note, being an asshole to each other is encouraged, again, we all know I do it. Being an asshole to the point where it obstructs resolution of what should be an easy to resolve matter is not encouraged.
For now I'll leave this thread open to discussion, if this calls are deemed unfair I'm willing to discuss the specifics here or in private.
